At its height, over 20 million people were affected, and over 7 million people were made homeless by the flooding. While most of the flood-affected people have returned to their home areas, approximately 14 million people still require humanitarian assistance to meet their basic needs, and to begin the process of resuming their normal lives.

CIDA is supporting World Vision Canada to provide increased access to safe drinking water and adequate sanitation to 7,500 flood-affected families in Khyber Pakhtunkhwa and Punjab Provinces. In addition, World Vision is promoting training on health and hygiene including safe water handling, latrine use and maintenance, personal hygiene, environmental sanitation, solid waste management, and maintenance of water supply infrastructure. This project is also benefiting an additional 750 flood-affected families with the provision of cash vouchers and cash-for-work schemes to promote the clean-up and restoration of community infrastructure.</pb:description><pb:status>Closed</pb:status><pb:start>2011</pb:start><pb:end>2012</pb:end><pb:countries><pb:country>Pakistan: 100%</pb:country></pb:countries><pb:executingAgencyPartner>World Vision Canada</pb:executingAgencyPartner><pb:CIDASectorsOfFocus><pb:CIDASectorOfFocus>Emergency assistance</pb:CIDASectorOfFocus></pb:CIDASectorsOfFocus><pb:DACSectors><pb:DACSector>Material relief assistance and services(072010): 100%</pb:DACSector></pb:DACSectors><pb:maximumCIDAContribution>$ 1,500,000</pb:maximumCIDAContribution><pb:expectedResults>This is a new feature, part of CIDA's efforts towards increasing transparency.
