| Description | ||||
|
The objective of the JUST program is to foster an improved sense of security for Jamaicans. Specifically, it aims to contribute to strengthening the justice system in Jamaica. The program works on three complementary fronts: (i) Order in institutions - strengthening justice institutions so that they are better able to contribute to order; (ii) Order in legislation - promoting legislative and policy reforms that better position the state to ensure security; and (iii) Order in society - encouraging communities to provide input into justice system reform, which leads to improved personal security. Project activities include: assessment of the managerial, financial, and organizational capabilities of justice-related institutions; strengthening government departments through expert advice, research, tailored training programs, workshops, mentoring, and coaching; supporting the review of selected existing legislation, regulations, and policies; and supporting the creation and operation of neighbourhood resource centres that give poor urban communities better access to justice services. |
