The International Youth Internship Program (IYIP) launched a call for proposals for 2012-2014 for up to $10 million.

The deadline for submissions was February 9, 2012.

IYIP is a component of an employment program for Canadian graduates (ages 19 to 30 inclusive), part of the Career Focus stream of the Government of Canada's Youth Employment Strategy (YES). Canada's YES provides Canadian youth with tools and experience they need to launch successful careers.

The objectives of the International Youth Internship Program are to:

• Provide eligible youth with international experience, skills and knowledge that will prepare them for future employment
• Increase employment opportunities by promoting awareness among Canadian organizations of the advantages of integrating young Canadian professionals into their structures and programs
• Provide opportunities for Canadians to increase their awareness of, deepen their understanding of, and engage in international development
• Contribute to the advancement of CIDA's mandate to reduce poverty, promote human rights and increase sustainable development and to contribute to meeting CIDA's priorities for official development assistance.

CIDA will contribute up to $12,000 per intern for a minimum of five interns per year up to a maximum of 20 interns per year per organization to cover costs directly incurred by the intern and specified within the contribution agreement. CIDA will also provide the organization with an allowance of up to 20 percent of the total project cost—a maximum of $3,000—per intern to cover all administrative and overhead costs.

Eligibility

Organizations submitting proposals must be incorporated in Canada and have at least two years' experience working in the area of international development.

Organizations that currently have an active agreement under IYIP cannot submit an additional proposal unless their existing agreement is due to expire no later than July 31, 2012.

Proposal assessment

CIDA's Partnerships with Canadians Branch (PWCB) will assess all completed proposals on a comparative basis against the following three components, explained further in the IYIP guidelines:

1. Development objectives
2. Results and cost-effectiveness
3. Likelihood of success / Capacity of Canadian organization

Application process

1. Please review the IYIP application guidelines thoroughly.
2. Create or update your organizational profile through PARTNERS@CIDA.
3. Upload the mandatory organization and proposal documents listed in the supporting documentation section of the application form, including the completed application form, to your profile on PARTNERS@CIDA. Supporting documentation that is not available in an electronic format should be scanned and uploaded to PARTNERS@CIDA. PWCB will not accept application forms or supporting documentation by mail or by fax.

Deadline

Completed proposals must have been submitted by February 9, 2012.

Review process

CIDA will not discuss applications until all organizations have been notified of decisions regarding their proposals. However, applicants can submit questions regarding the process or their individual proposals via email to the following address: correspondence.pwcb@acdi-cida.gc.ca. CIDA will post all questions and answers on the Frequently Asked Questions section of this website.

PWCB will contact successful applicants to discuss the contract details. PWCB will also send a letter to all unsuccessful candidates to inform them of the decision.
