CIDA signature and the Canada wordmark

The following rules are fundamental to the Government of Canada's corporate identity and should be observed when presenting the CIDA signature and the "Canada" wordmark.

Visual criteria

To ensure the integrity of corporate signatures and symbols the following criteria apply:
  • They may not be altered in any way
  • They should be displayed in generous open space, free from close association with any interfering or distracting elements
  • They may not appear on a visually conflicting background
  • They should be displayed as two distinct elements
  • The "Canada" wordmark may not form part of a headline, phrase, or sentence
The "Canada" wordmark has been defined as the dominant symbol of the federal government's identity; this aspect should be reflected when presenting it.

Colours and logos

The basic colours of the federal government's corporate identity are red, black, and white. The flag in the CIDA signature and in the "Canada" wordmark appears in red, while the type is rendered in black. Notwithstanding this rule, there is much flexibility when using other colours for the CIDA signature and the "Canada" wordmark.

When using an alternative colour for the CIDA signature and the "Canada" wordmark:

  • ensure sufficient contrast with the background
  • use the same colour for both flag and type
  • use the same colour for both signature and wordmark
The ink colour to specify for the red is:

  • FIP red (known by most printers in Canada)
  • Pantone red 032 (C=0 M=90 Y=86 K=0 ---- R=295 G=30 B=48)
  • Pantone red 185 (C=0 M=93 Y=69 K=0 ---- R=241 G=0 B=48)

Other specifications

  • The entire logo image is to appear in one colour, either positive or negative (reversed image).
  • The logo may not be displayed on a patterned background. This could distract from or affect the legibility of the logo.
  • The logos are protected under Canada's Trade-marks Act and are not to be modified in any way.
  • The CIDA logo is always to appear in its bilingual format, with English and French side by side.
  • The CIDA logo may not be used to create a hyperlink to CIDA's Internet site.
