Understanding international development

Commitments made by the international community to development goals and effectiveness principles and information on development research and Canada's partners.

Key international commitments

Over the past decade, Canada and the international community have rallied around a shared vision of development goals and aid effectiveness principles. This vision is expressed mainly through key international commitments. As a result of these commitments, Canada, in 2009, developed its aid effectiveness agenda.

At the 2010 G-8 Summit, Canada launched the Muskoka Initiative. This new set of commitments will improve the health of mothers, newborns and children in developing countries and reduce the number of preventable deaths.

Canada's Open Data portal provides statistical data and other information on Canada's international assistance in data sets and machine-readable formats.
