On this Human Rights Day, many people enjoy a full spectrum of their human rights. Canada is a country that respects that the rights of every individual. We share this fundamental value as Canadians.
In many other parts of the world, human rights are not recognized, respected or guaranteed. Without respect for one's rights, individuals, families and communities are vulnerable to exploitation and victimization. They do not have the opportunity for a safe, secure future and are unable to reach their full potential. Let us never forget those who suffer from being denied the same rights we enjoy.
We must continue to promote and support the human rights of all people. The Canadian International Development Agency ensures that human rights are respected in all of its international work. As part of its efforts for a better world, CIDA will continue to support the people who have been, or are still, denied their human rights.
