Budget Checklist
Before finalizing your budget, be sure to read the following information:
You must submit a balanced budget that provides full details of all expenses to be incurred. This includes, but is not limited to, administrative costs, material and personnel costs, travel expenses, research, production, distribution, and operational expenses. It includes the costs of monitoring a project and evaluating its impact through user-participant feedback.
Your budget should detail expected revenues, including information and documentation concerning all sources of funding. Be sure to itemize all financial and in-kind contributions from partners (confirmed and anticipated) and the amount of their contribution to the project, and identify the terms and conditions of their support. Be sure to include signed letters from partners that clearly identify the amount of their financial and in-kind contributions.
Account for all in-kind contributions and identify the equivalent value in dollar terms when possible. Dollar equivalents must be justifiable and reflect industry standards.
Indicate the percentage of funding you are requesting. Remember that we cannot consider projects that request more than 75 percent of their funding from CIDA and, if applicable, from other participating federal departments. If you are proposing to incur the remaining project costs, be sure to submit proof of your financial solvency and your ability to manage cash flow.
You must balance the budget and justify expenditures. Keep in mind that we provide very few contributions at the maximum level: please exercise moderation when you determine the level of funding you are requesting.
Be sure to attach copies of the budget in both a hard copy and an electronic format using either Lotus 1-2-3 or Microsoft Excel software.
