Quebec (Quebec)―Sylvie Boucher, Member of Parliament for Beauport-Limoilou, today announced a $300,000 contribution to the Cégep de Limoilou for vocational training in Senegal. Ms Boucher made the announcement on behalf of the Honourable Beverley J. Oda, Minister of International Cooperation, following a meeting with college officials.
"The Cégep de Limoilou has a proven track record in implementing international development projects, including a recent training program in Senegal in the field of geomatics," said Madame Boucher. "I'm confident that this new project will reach the same level of success. The Government of Canada is proud to partner with the Cégep de Limoilou, a globally-engaged community college."
This project is part of CIDA's Skills for Employment Initiative which aims to help developing countries establish strong technical and vocational education and training systems in order to build the skilled workforces necessary for economic growth. The funding will be provided through the Association of Canadian Community Colleges' CIDA-funded Education for Employment initiative in Africa. It supports private sector development and economic growth through workforce training and support for small business.
CIDA's Skills for Employment Initiative supports vocational and professional training projects in Africa, the Caribbean and the Andean region.
