The Canadian International Development Agency (CIDA) maintains a modest development assistance program in the Maldives consisting primarily of the Canada Fund for Local Initiatives (CFLI). There are no long-term projects planned in this country.
Following the December 2004 tsunami, over the 2005-2009 period, the Canadian International Development Agency (CIDA) provided both immediate humanitarian assistance and longer-term support for the reconstruction efforts to tsunami-affected communities. (Tsunami Recovery: Canada's Role)
The Maldives benefit from various programs, such as:
other programs that allow institutions, associations, Canadian and international non-governmental organizations and, private sector enterprises to receive funding from CIDA to execute projects worldwide; and
