Rooftops Canada Foundation Inc.- Fondation Abri International (Rooftops Canada)

Status: Filled
Organization: Rooftops Canada Foundation Inc.- Fondation Abri International
Acronym: Rooftops Canada
Type: Non-Governmental Organization
Mandate: Rooftops Canada is the international development program of co-operative and social housing organizations in Canada. These organizations own and manage over 600,000 non-profit housing units across Canada, housing about two million people. Since 1984, Rooftops Canada has been working with partner organizations to improve housing conditions, build sustainable communities and develop a shared vision of equitable global development. Rooftops Canada's focus is on disadvantaged communities in Africa and Asia. Our work contributes to Millennium Development Goal (MDG) 7, Target 11, which aims to improve the lives of at least 100 million slum dwellers by 2020. Rooftops Canada's approach to housing is guided by a vision of integrated sustainable human settlements development. Rooftops Canada's development work links shelter to poverty reduction through sustainable economic and social development, environmental protection, respect for human rights, democratization and gender equality. This is done by increasing the capacity of overseas partner organizations to support low-income communities to improve their housing and human settlement conditions.
