| Mandate: | The CBA is the largest voluntary professional association of the Canadian legal profession, representing some 38,000 lawyers, judges, notaries, academics and students. The CBA is committed to improving the law, the administration of justice and access to justice; promotes equality and the participation of women in the legal profession and in the justice system; and improves and promotes the knowledge, skills, ethical standards and well-being of members of the legal profession. The CBA works to develop the rule of law based on human rights and access to justice. It is dedicated to promoting equality and inclusion of diversity in the legal profession considering issues relating to gender, race, ethnicity and sexual orientation, and their impact on access to justice. Its overseas programming, projects and activities are based on this as a fundamental principle. Promoting gender equality in the legal profession and working towards improved access to justice by women is one of the fundamental purposes of the CBA. It also supports law reform work relating to the improvement, protection and conservation of the environment, and to the promotion of individual and community rights relating to environmental issues, particularly in connection with access to justice. L'ABC est le plus grand groupe voluntaire professionel de la profession légale canadienne, représentant quelques 38,000 avocats, juges, notaires, académiques et étudiants. L'ABC se dédie à amélirer la loi et l'administration de la justice l'accès à la justice; promouvoit l'égalité et la participation des femmes dans la profession légale et dans le système judiciaire; et promouvoit la connaissance, les compétences, les normes éthiques et le bien-être de ces membres. L'ABC se dédie à développer la règle de la loi pour encourager les droits humains et l'accès à la justice. Elle se dédie à promouvoir l'égalité et l'inclusion de la diversité dans la profession légale, tels les enjeux reliés à l'égalité entre les sexes, la race, l'ethnicité et orientation sexuelle, et leur impact de ces enjeux sur l'accès à la justice. Leur programmation à l'international est basé sur ce principe. Promouvoir l'égalité entre les sexes dans la profession légale et encourager un meilleur accès à la justice pour les femmes est un des principes fondementaux de l'ABC. L'organization soutient aussi la réforme de loi sur la protection et la conservation de l'environnement, et sur la promition des droits individus et communautaires reliés aux enjeux environnementaux, particulièrement en liaison avec l'accès à la justice. |

Position Description: The Uganda Law Society's work is to improve the professional standards of members of the Legal Profession, and to promote Human Rights, and the Rule of Law in Uganda by assisting the Government and the Judiciary in the Administration and practice of Law for the benefit of the people of Uganda. The intern will assist in projects contributing to the organizational strengthening of the ULS, and also to the the Legal Aid Project (LAP), which provides legal assistance to indigent and vulnerable people in Uganda. The Project was born out of the realization that apart form the state brief system that handles only capital offences, and the huge backlog of cases, there is no statutory free Legal Aid provision in Uganda despite the fact that a large part of Uganda's population lives below the poverty line, and without means to access justice. To date, the project has helped and continues to help thousands of indigent men, women and children to realize their legal and Human Rights. Qualifications:
Description du poste: La mission de l'ULS consiste à améliorer les normes professionnelles des membres de la profession juridique, et à promouvoir les droits de la personne et la primauté du droit en Ouganda en aidant le gouvernement et la magistrature à administrer et à pratiquer le droit au profit de la population de l'Ouganda. Le stagiaire prêtera assistance à des projets contribuant au renforcement organisationnel de l'ULS, et au projet d'aide juridique, qui offre une aide juridique aux personnes indigentes et vulnérables de l'Ouganda. Le projet est issu de la constatation qu'à l'extérieur du système des dossiers de l'État, qui gère uniquement les crimes punissables de mort, et l'énorme accumulation de cas, l'Ouganda n'a pas de dispositions sur une aide juridique gratuite en dépit du fait qu'une grande partie de la population vit sous le seuil de la pauvreté, et sans possibilité d'avoir accès à la justice. À ce jour, le projet a aidé - et il continue d'aider - des milliers d'hommes, de femmes et d'enfants indigents à affirmer leurs droits juridiques et leurs droits de la personne. Qualifications:
