Position Description: Position Description:

  1. Develop and educational health programming to be delivered to at risk groups in the community in tandem with local community health workers
  2. Develop training workshops for the locally engaged community health workers (all chw's are volunteers with limited professional health care experience)
  3. Initiate new community gardens through schools, churches and community groups
  4. Develop programs to access high yield seeds and new irrigation techniques
  5. Develop community kitchen groups to improve cooking techniques which can retain nutritional value of the food

Qualifications: 1. Meet all IYIP eligibility requirements;

2. A degree or diploma in nutrition, agriculture, education, sciences, or a health related field;

3. Strong communication, research and organizational skills;

4. Experience working or volunteering in either the health or agriculture sectors;

5. Experience working with at risk groups in rural communities
Host Organization: Nyaribo Self Help Dispensary
Host Organization Details: Positions relating to health improvement will focus on prevention and control of poverty-linked diseases (main location: Nyaribo, Kenya). Interns will work with the Officer in Charge of the Nyaribo Dispensary to complete their activities. For a sustainable outcome, COTR intends to deploy 2 interns per year for 3 consecutive years, with each internship building on the previous year’s projects. The internships will also indirectly benefit the College of the Rockies’ five year partnership with Kimathi University College of Technology administered by the Association of Canadian Community Colleges (ACCC), Canadian College Partnership Program (CCPP) funded through CIDA.
