The Algonquin-Cape Peninsula University of Technology (CPUT) partnership is designed to build the capacity of CPUT to respond to the training needs of young South African students and is part of an overall cooperation agreement between the two institutions. Algonquin's School of Media and Design provided technical assistance in the following areas: development of curriculum and implementation of teacher training workshops, quality assurance and student and program evaluation and monitoring; establishing and reinforcing interactive curriculum delivery modalities; and enhancing the capacity of CPUT faculty and staff to address education and training needs.

Overseas Job Description:
The HIV/AIDS Community Outreach Officer will assist CPUT in developing basic health and HIV/AIDS awareness information for use at workshops, seminars and various other outreach initiatives at the university and throughout South Africa. Specific roles that the interns will assist in will be: development of HIV/AIDS prevention to strengthen the capacity of local staff/students in AIDS awareness strategies through outreach seminars and workshops; dissemination of health education materials; facilitating training seminars on basic health issues; training, outreach and peer support; health promotion; material development; identifying potential "local champions" to carry on the work after the intern leaves; adding to and maintaining information on AIDS/HIV. The intern will participate in community outreach and education programs using the animated tool with a program priority of AIDS/HIV prevention and health awareness. The intern will facilitate outreach programs such as media campaigns, interactive seminars for males and females (separately), harm reduction, strategies, information on AIDS and health promotion.

Qualifications:
- excellent computer skills & knowledge of on-line learning
- college or university degree in human services or health care sector
- experience in community development and community health initiatives
