Description du stage : Project Description:
The intern will report to the head of the Department of Biomedical Lab Sciences. The intern will assist a study team examining the molecular diversity of HIV-1 in Rwandan populations, planned for 2008. The intern will assist the team in planning and managing the collection of blood samples. This will help determine the prevalence of HIV subtypes and rate of co-infection of the different subtypes. The findings will be used to inform policy makers so that care and treatment of HIV patients is improved. The intern will also teach course modules to over 180 laboratory, nursing and paramedic students attending the Kigali Health Institute. Modules may include: Cell Biology and Genetics, Anatomy and Physiology, Analytical Chemistry and Instrumentation.

Overseas Job Description:
Specific responsibilities will include:
1. Assist the team leader in the management and planning of HIV blood sample collection for the Ministry of Health approved study titled, "The Seroprevalence of HIV Subtype Co-infection"
2. Draft an operational budget for the collection team
3. Monitor progress and report to the HOD on any event during the sample collection process
4. Teach 80 hours in Cell Biology & Genetics or Anatomy & Physiology (90Hrs) or Analytical Chemistry & Instrumentation (80Hrs)
5. Perform any other related duties incidental to the work described herein

The ideal intern will have:
· Science Degree in Biology or Nursing
· Teaching or facilitation skills
· Knowledge of HIV/AIDS issues
· Familiarity with budgets
· Research skills
· Knowledge of Microsoft Office
· Good writing skills (documentation, report writing, etc.)
