The Saskatchewan Institute of Applied Science & Technology (SIAST) is the central publicly funded post-secondary skills training institution in Saskatchewan.  SIAST delivers employment-driven training programs that address the needs of individual learners and promote the economic and social development of local communities.  Because Saskatchewan has the most export-dependent economy in Canada, SIAST Business Development and International Partnership (BDIP) unit provides SIAST students, staff and graduates with international professional development opportunities that both support Saskatchewan exporters and assist SIAST’s international partner organizations.  Responding to international demand for the SIAST’s training services and products, initiatives include: i) brokering of SIAST certificate and diploma programs to partner institutions overseas, ii) design and delivery of international development projects,  iii) skills and language assessment of potential immigrants through the SIAST Skills Passport program and iv) recruitment and retention of international students in Saskatchewan.

SIAST has been active in international development since its inception in 1987.  The institution has implemented over 50 international development projects funded by CIDA, the World Bank, Asian Development Bank (ADB), Inter-American Development Bank (IADB), Swiss Development Corporation (SDC) and the Danish International Development Agency (DANIDA).
