|Mandat :||Rooftops Canada is the international development program of co-operative and social housing organizations in Canada. These organizations own and manage over 600,000 non-profit housing units across Canada, housing about two million people. Since 1984, Rooftops Canada has been working with partner organizations to improve housing conditions, build sustainable communities and develop a shared vision of equitable global development. Rooftops Canada's focus is on disadvantaged communities in Africa and Asia. Our work contributes to Millennium Development Goal (MDG) 7, Target 11, which aims to improve the lives of at least 100 million slum dwellers by 2020. Rooftops Canada's approach to housing is guided by a vision of integrated sustainable human settlements development. Rooftops Canada's development work links shelter to poverty reduction through sustainable economic and social development, environmental protection, respect for human rights, democratization and gender equality. This is done by increasing the capacity of overseas partner organizations to support low-income communities to improve their housing and human settlement conditions|

ALTERPLAN has a grant from a local NGO network, Partnership of
Philippine Support Services Agencies (PHILSSA) to investigate local government
settlement planning responses to disaster mitigation. Key government, NGOs and
academic organizations will provide information to guide NGOs collaborating
with local government units (LGU's) in disaster preparedness and response.
Following the investigation and consultations, ALTERPLAN in consortia with
other NGOs will test settlements planning processes and systems in partnership
with selected LGU's. Risk based analysis and disaster mitigation principles
will be applied in site planning for selected settlements.
The internship is for six months entirely spent overseas and a five-day orientation session held in Canada before departure.
-Assist ALTERPLAN with researching and compiling documentation that is normally associated with land use and settlements planning but can be used for the purpose of disaster mitigation.
-Liaise with the appropriate national government agencies, local government units and academic institutions to access relevant resources and documents relating to disaster mitigation.
-Analyze and document links between addressing issues of disaster mitigation and commitments to MDG 7, Target 11.
