|Description du stage :||
FAO is contributing to the implementation of the New Partnership for
Africa's Development (NEPAD) at national and regional levels, notably its
Comprehensive African Agriculture Development Program(CAADP) which expresses
NEPAD's vision for the Agriculture sector.
This contribution will require articulation of sound policies for agricultural and rural development, the facilitation of national/regional workshops, and the mobilization of adequate financial resources. A key objective is the preparation of thematic concept notes/briefs through interaction with various stakeholders, including the member countries, the Regional/Subregional Economic Communities, farmers organizations, the private sector and other relevant civil society organizations, including grassroots associations and donors.
For a period of at least one month prior to departure, the Assistant Policy Officer will be guided in researching the role of the host organization, developing a public engagement strategy, and acquiring basic knowledge of M&E in a results-based context. This preparatory phase includes a one-week intensive pre-departure training session delivered by Saint Mary's University. In addition, the Assistant Policy Officer will register for a session sponsored by CIDA through the Centre for Intercultural Learning.
Under the direction of the Policy Officer, the Assistant Policy Officer will: support members of FAO Ghana's Policy Unit in appraisal of regional programs and projects in areas of FAO mandate; assist the review of national/regional agriculture and rural development policy and strategy documents; assist in the organization and facilitation of national or regional meetings/workshops which are aimed at building consensus on identified policy options in the framework of the implementation of the CAADP, which may require travel to other countries in West Africa. Finally, the Assistant Policy Officer will help with the the preparation of thematic concept papers for presentation at the 25th FAO Regional Conference for Africa planned for 2008 in Kenya;
|Organisation d'accueil :||Food and Agriculture Organization of the United Nations|
|Détails au sujet de l'organisation d'accueil :||The Food and Agriculture Organization of the United Nations' (FAO) mandate is to raise levels of nutrition, improve agricultural productivity, better the lives of rural populations and contribute to the growth of the world economy. The Organization provides the kind of behind-the-scenes assistance that helps people and nations help themselves. If a community wants to increase crop yields but lacks the technical skills, FAO introduces simple, sustainable tools and techniques. When a country shifts from state to private land ownership, FAO provides the legal advice to smooth the way. When a drought pushes already vulnerable groups to the point of famine, action is mobilized by the Organization. And in a complex world of competing needs, FAO provides a neutral meeting place and the background knowledge needed to reach consensus.|
