|Description du stage :||
The burden of family and community care is often in the hands of women
in Garifuna communities, given the tendency of men to seek income generation
opportunities outside of the area. Therefore, women have a heavy load of work
and responsibility to maintain the household and village life. This project is
designed to build women's capacity to manage their lives, families and
communities. Training and education provided to women include literacy,
numeracy, financial management, business administration, health, environment
and leadership. In addition, resources are provided to women to support their
economic and educational pursuits, and enhance the health and well-being of
their families and communities.
The intern will fully participate in the CAUSE orientation sessions, learning about CAUSE policies and projects, studying culture shock and possible strategies to deal with it, and acquiring many other skills necessary for a successful internship.
The intern will also participate in the final debriefing, reviewing their experiences on the field with CAUSE and each other. The intern will complete an evaluation of their internship, prepare for post-internship pursuits, and engage in public engagement activities. These outreach activities will raise public awareness of intern experiences, CAUSE and CIDA programs, and Canada's role in international development.
The Women's Program Facilitator will work with the CAUSE Honduras Representative and the local partners to:
Assist local Board, staff and residents to understand and promote women's participation in leadership roles;
Train, coach and support local women as leaders;
Support the development of programs to serve women; and
Report to the CAUSE Honduras Representative and the CAUSE Canada Program Director.

|Détails au sujet de l'organisation d'accueil :||The mandate of CAUSE Honduras is to serve the relief and development needs of the people of Honduras with a particular focus on the Garífuna and Miskito communities of the country's North Coast. CAUSE Canada was instrumental in starting CAUSE Honduras in 1995 prior to Hurricane Mitch and the relief efforts following the Hurricane have transformed into programs that have been implemented on the northern coast and throughout the country ever since. CAUSE Honduras operates in accordance with the same policies and guidelines as CAUSE Canada. Over the last 6 years, CAUSE Honduras programming has included emergency relief, school reconstruction, micro-credit loans (including a partnership with Opportunity International), and reforestation. The organization is currently implementing a multi-disciplinary agriculture and health program entitled Promoting Sustainable Livelihoods Through Agricultural Enhancement, supported by CIDA.|
