EIC insists that all project benefits derived from community development, relief and rehabilitation are to be available to all, regardless of race, gender, or religion. Usolanga Dispensary includes an out patients department, child health
clinics, sexual health services and family planning. It provides essential
treatment and preventative health services to the rural community. The
dispensary also provides health education by working in conjunction with
village health workers and local schools. The intern will be working together
with the dispensary and local school staff to bring motivation and resources to
local people with regards to health promotion and disease prevention. In Canada The intern is responsible for attending training sessions and preparing themselves for their time abroad. Overseas After an initial month of studying the national language of Swahili, the intern will live and work in the remote village of Usolanga. He or she will work with the diocesan dispensary staff and laise with village health workers and the local school. The activities that this intern will be involved with include: - To bring motivation and resources to local people with regards to health promotion and disease prevention - Work with the dispensary staff, village health workers and local schools to develop health outreach programs to address issues including malaria and diahorreal disease prevention. - To encourage improvement of household level hygiene, sanitation, water use and cooking facilities, through home visits and practical demonstrations. - Work with community groups to improve the level of education in the village on HIV/AIDS awareness and prevention. |
