The Teaching Assistant - Youth will gain practical work experience in
the field of early childhood education through curriculum development and
implementation in Nairobi, Kenya. In Canada The successful candidate will start their orientation online from their residence in Canada which will include; document preparation, project research and planning, and initial contact with their host organizations. The remainder of the orientation (one week) will be conducted on site at the College of the Rockies in Cranbrook, BC which includes a project and country orientation, health and safety workshops, personal and professional action plans, trip planning, interaction with previous interns, a career development workshop, and participation in the CIL pre-departure training program. Overseas The successful intern will work with the Shepherds Foundation Education and Research Centre's elementary school in a disadvantaged area of Nairobi. As a teaching assistant, the intern will work with local staff to develop new curriculum and delivery methods, as well as, preparing and teaching specific course chapters and/or classes. |

The Junior School was started in 1983 and is now ranked in the top ten schools in Kenya. The Foundation was established in 1999 with a vision to reach University status by 2012. SFERC's goal is to add quality and value to education and training in the local community. |
