Mandat : The Atlantic Council for International Cooperation (ACIC) is a unique coalition of Atlantic Canadian organizations and individuals working on, or having an interest in, international development and cooperation issues, working together to achieve sustainable global development in a peaceful and healthy environment, with social justice, human dignity, and participation for all. ACIC supports its members in development and development education through collective leadership, networking, information, training and coordination, and represents their interests when dealing with government and others. We currently have 55 members, including national and grassroots organizations from across the Atlantic Provinces.

Description du stage : The intern will assist NSEN with its community sustainability project in Nova Scotia. The intern will organize events and capacity-building workshops and prepare material for the project. The intern will facilitate networking among community partners for this project. In Honduras, the intern will work with
COHAPAZ to build capacity among community leaders and citizens through leadership, skills training, capacity building, needs assessment, and other community economic development (CED) techniques.

In Canada
The candidate will work with staff and the steering committee of the NSEN to undertake the following tasks:
- Assist with the Community Sustainability Project in Nova Scotia;
- Help organize capacity-building workshop and events on sustainability;
- Facilitate communication among community partners; and
- Prepare resource materials and articles related to sustainability work and research.

Overseas
The intern will be involved with assisting the organization in building the capacity of community leaders in the area of community economic development through:
- Providing support for local small scale development activities (including community gardens and/or appropriate technologies);
- Researching and utilizing qualitative indicators for project monitoring and evaluation;
- Based on a needs assessment of participating communities, assisting in the development of workshops and communication materials that create links between environmental and economic sustainability; and
- Meeting periodically with regional coordinators to facilitate capacity-building activities, including skills training, public education and community engagement.

Détails au sujet de l'organisation d'accueil : COHAPAZ is an organization based in Tegucigalpa, Honduras, with affiliates in and around the capital city. Major activities include a food security project that focuses on capacity building among women through leadership and skills training, production and marketing of organic foods and other products to local markets, and the generation of strategies to build healthy communities.
