Mandat : The Atlantic Council for International Cooperation (ACIC) is a unique coalition of Atlantic Canadian organizations and individuals working on, or having an interest in, international development and cooperation issues, working together to achieve sustainable global development in a peaceful and healthy environment, with social justice, human dignity, and participation for all. ACIC supports its members in development and development education through collective leadership, networking, information, training and coordination, and represents their interests when dealing with government and others. Description du stage : In Canada, the intern will work with the Standing Tall Campaign of the Ecology Action Centre. The focus of the campaign is to improve forestry practices in Nova Scotia through changes in public forest policy. In Ecuador, the intern will work with FURARE to assist its Forest Restoration Programs in promoting sustainable analog forestry, protecting and monitoring endangered species, and advocating forest conservation initiatives

In Canada
The intern will assist the Standing Tall campaign co-ordinators of the Ecology Action Centre. The intern will help with:
- Background research into forestry regulations, ecology, policies, and economic issues;
- Data assembly and analysis;
- Community outreach;
- Development of fact sheets and other communications materials; and
- The organisation of workshops and other special events.
The intern will also attend meetings of the Ecology Action Centre's Wilderness Committee, and other relevant forums; some field work may be required. The intern may assist with other tasks at the Ecology Action Centre.

The intern will be involved in the community of Nuevo Mundo in the Ecuadorian cloud forest. The community has long been involved in Analog Forestry and is developing an orchid greenhouse and a trail network for eco-tourism. The intern will help the community to strategise and design an action plan for ecotourism development. This will be accomplished through:
- Monitoring of the ecological and tourism attributes of the area;
- Research and monitoring for endangered species protection;
- Development of an eco-tourism education program related to sustainable forestry, endangered species awareness and local biodiversity (focusing on orchids);
- Assisting with the development of resource materials; and
- Assisting with the day-to-day tasks of running an environmental NGO.

Détails au sujet de l'organisation d'accueil : Fundacion Rainforest Rescue seeks, through active intervention, to salvage or rescue species threatened with imminent extinction by human-induced habitat destruction; maintain collections of such species and conduct research on their conservation and microhabitat needs; encourage forest restoration and other silvicultural practices which include these species in their planting regimes; and help alleviate the pressure on wild stocks caused by national and international trade.
