Description du stage : Ouaitoukoubouli-Kalinago Rediscovery (OKR) is an organization dedicated to encouraging youth to rise as leaders in helping to respond to the poverty and challenges facing their communities. OKR encourages youth to explore their Indigenous roots, allowing for the development of a sense of cultural pride. GRR has been a part of creating this initiative in the Kalinago territory and it is incredible to be working with such a driven and dedicated organization.

In Canada
The intern will take part in the Rediscovery International Foundation's 12 day program at Pearson College in Victoria, B.C. from May 27 - June 8, 2007 as well as Ghost River Rediscovery's Pre-departure Briefing, Introduction to IYIP and participation in Aboriginal Awareness Training that will take place at GRR's office in Calgary from August 27-31, 2007.

Overseas
The intern will be drawing on the strengths of traditional Aboriginal teaching to support children and youth engaging them as agents of positive change.

Tasks of Canadian Intern
Sharing of Aboriginal Culture, Project Design, Community research, Youth work, Delivery of workshops, Expansion of projects throughout region and the Linking of communities

Responsibilities
Temporary Staff-will be responsible for helping to develop and implement a culturally-based youth leadership program. They will be responsible for reporting on their activities and achievements to the HO and GRR.

The placement is innovative in that it allows for a Canadian Aboriginal youth to share with the local Kalinago youth their community's challenges in facing modernization and the lessons that have been learned. Together they have the chance to proactively come up with solutions and create methods of greeting the challenges that both countries are currently facing.
