The intern will be associated with the Disaster Reduction and Recovery
Unit of the BCPR (Bureau for Crisis Prevention and Recovery) prepared a
strategy for its activities in the region. The Bureau aims to contribute to the
reduction of natural disaster risk in southern Africa by building and
strengthening disaster management capacity and by reducing the vulnerability of
the poorest populations. In Canada The JPC will complete preparations tasks as guided by CANADEM prior to taking up the overseas assignment. These preparation tasks will include: - review and completion of documentation related to such matters as health, security, contracts and finances. - health consultations and preparation - travel arrangements - contact with overseas supervisors and background document reviews on the destination country, culture and the assignment - attendance at pre-departure orientation program covering topics including adaptation, health, security, intercultural communications, success in international work environments and follow-on employment counseling. Overseas The JPC will assist and advise in the review of the policies and plans, including the Country Cooperation Framework (CCF) and Poverty Reduction Strategy Paper (PRSP) within the context of HIV, governance, women and children issues; identify and promote realistic and appropriate measures to address these factors and develop project proposals for Malawi within the context of the sustainable recovery and disaster risk management framework for implementation by UNDP in partnership with other UN agencies and NGOs; assist as needed in facilitating the coordination of recovery activities with those of other agencies, and ensure that the immediate and midterm planning includes HIV components; assist as needed in mobilizing resources for projects within the context of the sustainable recovery framework and disaster risk management; work with the Bureau for Crisis Prevention and Recovery (BCPR) regional office in the above and provide input for the regional strategy. |
