Description du stage : The Participatory Development Program (PDP) is a CIDA-funded initiative designed to increase participation of NGOs and civil society organisations in the social and economic development of Egypt. The purpose of the PDP is to identify and strengthen promising associations/foundations to effectively engage and represent their communities and dialogue with the GOE and other development actors. The PDP will achieve its results in four components: 1) management of three sub-project facilities, namely the Participatory Development Facility (PDF), Gender Equality Development Facility (GEDF) and Child Protection Development Facility (CPDF); 2) management, delivery and coordination of capacity development to targeted associations/foundations; 3) capacity development support to strengthen networks and facilitate cross-sector policy dialogue; and 4) support to participatory research and dissemination of knowledge.

In Canada
While in Canada, the intern will collaborate with FIT's team to undergo extensive training in concepts and principles of project management, followed by specialized training in areas related to the placement. Specific in-Canada training activities will include:
- Researching and preparing for field mission
- Becoming familiar with PDP objectives and documents
- Participating in individual training in the areas of curriculum development and design and training systems
- Participating in training activities: budgeting, training techniques, reporting and the project management cycle
- Facilitating and participating in focused learning circles and seminars to gain a deeper understanding of development issues
- Attending pre-departure briefing through the Centre for Intercultural Learning (CIL)

Overseas
In Egypt, as the Project Assistant, the intern will work with members of the PDP team to support the delivery of capacity development activities with supported organisations and assist in the development of training guides and manuals. The PDP has developed solid training resources in several new areas of training in Egypt, including human rights approaches to development (HRAD); results-based management (RBM); child rights and protection. Due to the volume of this material, and the iterative manner in which it has been developed, it has not been collected into manual. The intern will assist the team to collect these customized materials into a stand-alone training manual that can continue to meet civil society capacity development needs past the Program period. Specifically, the intern will:
- Review training materials with the Capacity Development Manager, and develop a training manual outline.
- Work with PDP team to identify common learning needs of civil society organizations in HRAD, child rights and protection and RBM
- Identify any gaps in the material and, when necessary, provide assistance in generating new content to address these gaps.
- Attend various training workshops delivered to supported organisations in relevant topics in order to gain deeper understanding of the material
- Organise and participate in pilot workshops to test the manual
- Working with the Communications Officer, finalise the manual and prepare for publication.
