Description du stage : The Participatory Development Program (PDP) is a CIDA-funded initiative designed to increase participation of NGOs and civil society organisations in the social and economic development of Egypt. The purpose of the PDP is to identify and strengthen promising associations/foundations to effectively engage and represent their communities and dialogue with the GOE and other development actors. The PDP will achieve its results in four components:
1) management of three sub-project facilities, namely the Participatory Development Facility (PDF), Gender Equality Development Facility (GEDF) and Child Protection Development Facility (CPDF);
2) management, delivery and coordination of capacity development to targeted associations/foundations;
3) capacity development support to strengthen networks and facilitate cross-sector policy dialogue; and
4) support to participatory research and dissemination of knowledge. The intern will support new activities planned in the area of research and knowledge sharing.

In Canada
While in Canada, the intern will collaborate with FIT's team to undergo extensive training in concepts and principles of project management, followed by specialized training in areas related to the placement. Specific in-Canada training activities will include:
- Researching and preparing for field mission
- Becoming familiar with PDP objectives and documents
- Researching principles of participatory development and capacity development
- With guidance from the Program Director, develop a framework for analyzing impact of PDP's capacity development initiatives within supported organisations
- Participating in training activities: budgeting, training techniques, reporting and the project management cycle
- Facilitating and participating in focused learning circles and seminars to gain a deeper understanding of development issues
- Attending pre-departure briefing through the Centre for Intercultural Learning (CIL)

Overseas
In Egypt, as the Knowledge Sharing Project Assistant, the intern will work with members of the PDP team to support an impact assessment of the Program's capacity development activities among supported organizations. The intern will participate in analysis of partner's reports, monitoring reports and evaluation documents, and draw out success stories and lessons learned. S/he will assist in the documentation if these in the form of case studies. The intern will, when appropriate undertake field visits to organizations in order to better understand the context of their capacity development activities in order to enrich the content of the case studies. S/he will also assist the Communications Officer identify appropriate media for sharing case studies and other impact assessment results. Specifically, the intern will assist the project through the following activities:
- Assist in aggregating results achieved by PDP's partner organizations through their capacity development activities and drawing out examples of good practice and lessons learned for knowledge sharing.
- In collaboration with all members of the professional staff, document significant results and Program impact, paying special attention to:
a) the challenges and benefits encountered in initiatives aimed at strengthening capacities for participatory development, gender equality and child protection
b) the unexpected benefits/challenges (if any)
c) the perceived and realized benefits to the participants' communities
d) potential impact of results for the strengthening of civil society in Egypt.
- Collaborate with the Monitoring and Research Officer to validate and revise (as needed) the impact analysis framework. Assist the Monitoring and Research Officer to provide orientation to other team members to enable continuous impact analysis following the completion of the Intern's assignment
- Submit an impact assessment report, summarizing analysis of results
- Collaborate with the Communications Officer to identify innovative means of sharing knowledge and case studies emerging from impact analysis activities, and provide support in organizing and coordinating knowledge sharing publications and activities.

Détails au sujet de l'organisation d'accueil : The Participatory Development Program (PDP) is a CIDA-funded initiative designed to increase participation of NGOs and civil society organisations in the social and economic development of Egypt. The Program has operated an office in Cario since September 2003, and has successfully hosted two FIT interns through the IYIP. The purpose of the PDP is to identify and strengthen promising associations/foundations to effectively engage and represent their communities and dialogue with the GOE and other development actors. The PDP will achieve its results in four components:
1) management of three sub-project facilities, namely the Participatory Development Facility (PDF), Gender Equality Development Facility (GEDF) and Child Protection Development Facility (CPDF);
2) management, delivery and coordination of capacity development to targeted associations/foundations;
3) capacity development support to strengthen networks and facilitate cross-sector policy dialogue; and
4) support to participatory research and dissemination of knowledge.
