In Canada While in Canada, the intern will be required to attend a one-week pre-departure training session organized by Acadia University, Wolfville, Nova Scotia. In addition, the intern will be required to register for a session sponsored by CIDA at the Centre for Intercultural Learning (CIL) if the CIL schedule permits. While in Canada (approximately one month) the intern will fully brief themselves on the role of their Host Organization and read relevant material and issues, supplied by Dr. Conley. The intern will also contribute to the first issue of the Global Byte newspaper for 2007. Overseas As a Human Rights Associate the intern will be required to do any of the following tasks: - Produce written papers and articles on human rights issues that are suitable for publication in newspapers, journals, etc; - Undertake advocacy in person or over the internet, to groups or individuals, including speaking at public events. - Contribute to the ongoing development of Right to Information networks. - Organise and attend workshops, seminars and conferences. - Carry out primary and secondary research. - Assist with the development of funding proposals. - Organise and attend workshops, seminars and conferences. - Manage but not develop CHRI's RTI website. |

| Détails au sujet de l'organisation d'accueil : | CHRI's mandate is to promote awareness of and adherence to the Harare Principles, the Universal Declaration of Human Rights and other internationally recognised human rights instruments and declarations made by the Commonwealth Heads of Governments as well as domestic instruments supporting human rights in the Commonwealth. CHRI believes that the promotion and protection of human rights is the responsibility of governments but that the active participation of civil society acting in concert is vital to ensuring rule of law and the realisation of human rights. |
