Description du stage : The Algonquin-ATEC partnership is designed to build the capacity of ATEC to respond to the health needs of rural Goa and is part of an overall cooperation agreement between the two institutions. Algonquin's School of Health and Community Studies will provide technical assistance in the following areas: development and implementation of a PRA baseline study; workshops and training in results based management and participatory project evaluation and monitoring; development of priority health education curricula; establishing and reinforcing extension centre delivery modalities in rural communities; and enhancing the capacity of ATEC faculty and staff to address rural health education and training needs.

In Canada
In Canada, the intern will work with the Health and Community Studies department to support the elaboration of an education program in health and community services for ATEC personnel which Algonquin is working on with ATEC. Further, the intern will work with faculty of the School of Health and Community Studies and the International Education Centre to prepare for their assignment. The intern will do research on the assigned country and attend pre-departure briefing sessions. Also, the intern will be expected to develop a workplan for the overseas placement and a career search plan for the return to Canada.

In addition to preparatory work specified in the job description, the intern will undergo inter-cultural training and orientation in reporting expectations. Also, prior to departure, the intern will undertake the following:
- submit a resume to the National Graduate Register (NGR)
- network with and interview private sector companies on hiring policies/criteria
- begin language training, if necessary
- research listing of NGOs involved in overseas development work.

Overseas
In India, the work includes:
- responding to the needs of youth by making referrals to community, social services
- keeping a weekly log of activities, events, and statistics
- organizing unstructured recreational activities suitable for youth
- liaising with the multi-disciplinary team
- attending weekly staff meetings, provide feedback and respond to any request for information
- network with community stakeholders and social services agencies
- community development through volunteer recruitment of youth within the designated communities to assist with mini tournaments and other organized recreational activities.

Détails au sujet de l'organisation d'accueil : Founded in 1980 by the Ministry of Education, Government of India, ATEC has extensive experience working with the community. They have established training programs and service centres for the Government of India in youth services, women's training, entrepreneurship and continuing education. ATEC's Community Polytechnic has established rural extension centres to carry out human resource training.
