|Description du stage :||
Women and girls have been excluded from educational opportunities for
many years in Sierra Leone, and especially in the Koinadugu District in the
northern area of the country. Illiteracy among women and girls is extremely
high. This project will increase the female literacy rate in Koinadugu, thereby
opening up many opportunities to women for leadership, income generation,
further education and other pursuits. This project will involve financial
management training, health support, and economic resources to significantly
boost the status and empowerment of women in Koinadugu. In this way, the
quality of life and standard of living of these participants' families and
communities will be substantially enhanced.
The intern will fully participate in the CAUSE orientation sessions, learning about CAUSE policies and projects, studying culture shock and possible strategies to deal with it, and acquiring many other skills necessary for a successful internship.
The intern will also participate in the final debriefing, reviewing their experiences on the field with CAUSE and each other. The intern will complete an evaluation of their internship, prepare for post-internship pursuits, and engage in public engagement activities. These outreach activities will raise public awareness of intern experiences, CAUSE and CIDA programs, and Canada's role in international development.
The Women's Literacy Consultant will work with the CAUSE Sierra Leone Country Director and the local partners to:
- Transfer skills to local partners regarding literacy education;
- Evaluate the effectiveness of the programming and make recommendations as to how it can improve;
- Determine if the needs of the beneficiaries are fully being met in order to enhance the sustainability of the program; and
- Report to the CAUSE Sierra Leone Country Director and the CAUSE Canada Program Director.
