Description du stage : SIM BF works in partnership with Eglises Evangélique/SIM in an Agro-Pastorale program connected with a training school. Students are heavily involved in learning improved agricultural practices. The Agro-Pastorale program includes demonstration plots and projects, trials of various types, the development of a dairy herd, and honey production. A significant component of the project includes the development of an appropriate agricultural curriculum.

In Canada
Prior to departure, the intern will be responsible for preparing for the internship through orientation and outreach activities. Upon return, the intern will be responsible for participating in debriefing sessions, preparing a written summary of the internship for communication purposes, and participating in follow-up outreach activities.

Reporting to the head of the Agro-Pastorale program, the intern will relate closely with students, staff, and other development workers in the area. The internship will allow the intern to become familiar with the challenges of sustainable agriculture in the Sahel region of West Africa and to develop skills related to overcoming these challenges. Specific responsibilities will include:
- Initiating on-site demonstrations with students, and ensuring that students are equipped to maintain the demonstrations. (Examples include water / soil conservation techniques, tree nursery, composting methods, living fences.)
- Assist in the development of an appropriate agricultural curriculum.
- Map and reorganize the farmland at the school site, identifying environmental risks and potential ways of reducing those risks.
- If interested, present seminars to students related to agricultural topics.
