Description du stage : The Community Development Program (CDP) works in rural poor communities in Bangladesh with the goal of improved well-being of people through locally-based, holistic, and integrated development activities. This is accomplished through activities such as agricultural assistance to farmers, literacy promotion and education, initiation and supervision of cooperative savings groups, and training of cooperative health representatives and traditional birthing assistants. CDP operates in two districts in Bangladesh with three offices and more than twenty full-time Bengali staff.

In Canada
Prior to departure, the intern will be responsible for preparing for the internship through orientation and outreach activities. Upon return, the intern will be responsible for participating in debriefing sessions, preparing a written summary of the internship for communication purposes, and participating in follow-up outreach activities.

Overseas
Reporting to the SIM Bangladesh Director, the intern will work closely with the Community Development Program Coordinator and other Advisor to provide project management support. Specific duties will include:
- complete 2 months of Bengali language training in Dhaka
- complete a survey of literacy, health and farming needs and develop program recommendations based on this
- regularly monitor CDP training programs in literacy, health, and agriculture and assist Bengali staff in developing improved strategies for doing the same
- oversee quarterly reporting and support Bengali staff in improving their competence in this
- coordinate an evaluation of CDP
- assist CDP staff in identifying networking opportunities
