The goal of the project is to strengthen communication and cooperation
within the region to which Santarem belongs to to address common social,
environmental, and economic problems. The project engages young people in issue
identification and collaborative problem-solving processes, as well as policy
and decision-making at the community, municipal, and regional levels. The
immedial objective is to establish mechanisms for achieving the above goals,
such as youth sub-committees, a regional network of youth concerned about the
environment, and/or community pilot projects devoted to composting, recycling,
watershed management, etc. The initial task of the intern be to assist the municipality int he identification of the some key institutions e.g. churches, parent-teacher associations, residents associations, farm unions, mothers groups, etc) that can act as initial and/or lead partners for the youth sub committees. Specifically this intern will be looking at the development of environmental enterprises (recycling cooperatives, community composting initiatives, etc.). |
