The goal of the project is to strengthen communication and cooperation
within the region to which Santarem belongs to to address common social,
environmental, and economic problems. The project engages young people in issue
identification and collaborative problem-solving processes, as well as policy
and decision-making at the community, municipal, and regional levels. The
immedial objective is to establish mechanisms for achieving the above goals,
such as youth sub-committees, a regional network of youth concerned about the
environment, and/or community pilot projects devoted to composting, recycling,
watershed management, etc. The intern will be responsible for researching, planning, and carrying out environmental education for children and youth in low-income areas of Santarem, Amazon Region. The intern will be working within the K-12 and post secondary school system to educate children and youth about health indicators related to the environmental pollution, energy consumption, and climate change, food security as well as ways they can address those challenges. All of the education will also involve income generation projects for youth in low-income communities. There will be a special emphasis on projects specifically suited for young women. |
