The goal of UN Habaitat Global Partnership Initiative is creating
effective and sustainable models for urban youth development, employment and
sustainable livelihoods in Africa. The concept recognizes youth as assets in
their community, and is focused on youth led modalities in service delivery
where capacity exists. The project is based on a partnership between UN
agencies, civil society member states, youth NGOs and local authorities. One
such example is the One Stop centre in Nairobi. It is a youth focused centre
where young people become involved in transforming their communities. Using
both peer to peer, as well as, adult mentorship approaches youth gain skills
and access to opportunities including: - livelihood skills and entrepreneurship - safer communities - involvement in decision making - information technology - leadership for social change Overseas The intern will be resoponsible for coaching over 50 low-income youth from informal settlements in Nairobi will in the steps of micro-entrepreneurship and employment. This will include introduction to simple business planning, sales projections and marketing. However, as well the participants desire to create a better community will be catered for by by including topics such as environmentally and socially beneficial entrepreneurship. After the course the intern will provide ongoing coaching to the intern for several months to monitor their progress and provide support and guidance. |
