Description du stage : Peru has a population of 27 million people, 54% of whom live in poverty (Basic Guidelines for the National Strategic Plan). People in chronic poverty are those who have benefited least from economic growth and development (Chronic Poverty Report- 2004). The urban and rural poor suffer most from this unemployment due to lack of relevant skills to enter into and benefit from economic growth in emerging sectors, such as local and international tourism.

In Canada
The four week pre-departure training program "Young Professionals Going Global" is described in detail under the Implementation Plan and Time Line tab

The Gender outreach officer (GOO) will work with ISUR in order to research and compile a database of Women-specific opportunities and activities in the Arequipa region. In addition the GOO will focus on qualitative and quantitative interviews with women, regarding the emerging tourism sector in AREQUIPA, in order to identify barriers to entry that exist for them. Women-only activities will be identified and planned to allow for women's practical needs and advancement. The GOO will work with ISUR to design a gender strategy that can be practically implemented in the project.
Organisation d'accueil : ISUR
Détails au sujet de l'organisation d'accueil : Instituto del Sur (ISUR), a technological educational institution, has a strong commitment to offer professional training in order to contribute to the equitable development of society. It has a clear mandate to work closely with disadvantaged groups and actively respond to the training needs of its community. ISUR's experience in managing educational capacity-building projects with the Ministry of Education, IDB, AECI and Cenfotur supports this mandate. ISUR offers two programs in tourism (Official Tour Guide and Hotel Management) and requires students to complete 30 hours of local community service in order to graduate. ISUR will also provide strong entrepreneurship mentoring for project trainees supported by its "business incubator," a business support unit established with local industry input.
