| Mandat : | OC's International Development Centre provides OC students, faculty, staff, and community members with a window on the realities and opportunities of the developing world. IDC operates within the OC internationalisation strategy to expose OC community members to and involve them in the issues of the developing world through exchanges, training of overseas personnel on OC programs, internships, classroom and community presentations, professional development opportunities, consultancies, and program development. IDC is a signature program of the Salmon Arm campus of OC and builds on the current and completed community development projects located in West Africa and co-ordinated through Salmon Arm over the past eleven years. Okanagan College is a comprehensive community college offering a variety of technical, vocational, academic upgrading, and university transfer level courses. OC focuses on serving the educational needs of the Okanagan-Shuswap community. |

The intern will work as a business advisor to OICG Business Unit. The
intern will be involved in the development of the business unit, and contribute
to achieving a state of profitability. The ultimate goal of the business unit
is to lead the vocational training centre into a state of financial
sustainability. It is also intended to be used as an on-site training centre
for student to gain practical experience. The intern will be involved in
strategy development, business plan writing / analysis, marketing initiatives
and distribution of OICG produced goods. In Canada Interns will participate in pre-departure training and post-overseas debriefing and re-entry. IDC/OC staff will facilitate pre-departure training and debriefing that will adress the following: Monthly reporting and final report submission, cultural and language training, health and wellness, contract agreements, post-internship job searching strategies and resume writing, effective re-entry awareness and support, personal reflection opportunities, evaluations of experiences and learnings while overseas, sharing of journals, and the completion of program reports and CIDA evaluations. Interns will be asked to give feedback to IDC/OC staff on a number of program areas to be documented in reports to CIDA and applied to future programs and funded international internship possibilities. Also during the this time the interns will participate in outreach activities that will raise awareness of CIDA internships and international development in general. Overseas The intern will: - work as a member of the management team; - develop plans to expand marketing opportunities; - assist in the training staff; - help develop marketing cooperatives; - identify markets; - train groups in marketing; - identify sources of grants and raise funds; - assist in loan recovery; - develop micro-enterprise training materials; - collect and analyze business data; - identify problems and offer solutions; - assist field staff in the rural communities; - assist with promotional presentations; - advise the Business Unit Manager; - track Business Unit activities; - and present workshops on business practices. |

| Détails au sujet de l'organisation d'accueil : | OIC International's mission in Ghana is to train people in a variety of businesses and to foster partnerships with communities and other agencies. In addition, OIC International transfers marketable skills in various centers throughout Ghana. In doing this, OIC International hopes to promote self-reliance and increased productivity in the development of local rural communities. |
