The intern will be associated with the main project that provides
''Emergency assistance to mobile and vulnerable populations in Zimbabwe.'' This
project aims to reduce the impact of the present Zimbabwe humanitarian crisis
on the displaced population through the provision of food, non-food
requirements, gender, HIV/AIDS mainstreaming, health interventions, shelter and
livelihood activities. HIV and AIDS mainstreaming components of the program are
designed to provide HIV prevention and mitigation activities among the already
identified displaced ex-farm workers and their families variously affected by
the epidemic. The program also develops strategies aimed to prevent and control
communicable diseases, promote reproductive health, and prevent and respond to
gender based violence among the IDP (Internally Displaced Person) community
assisted. The intern will: - Design and implement a surveillance system for communicable diseases among IDPs (Internally Displaced Persons) - Draft information communication materials on prevention of communicable diseases within IDP communities - Organize and facilitate a training on the use of UNFPA reproductive health kits, as well as prevention of GBV (Gender Based Violence) for humanitarian workers - Draft information materials on prevention of Gender Based Violence - Document lessons learned - Assist with the on-going development of a strategy for adressing communicable diseases that includes: definition of activities, training of the community health volunteers - Establish links and maintain continous dialogue, supervision and capacity building activities for IOM implementing partners in the field of HIV/AIDS - Prepare written progress reports for the mission. |
