International Development Week 2015

Event Details
Status: Archived
Name of event: Jointly Generating New Knowledge on Issues Pertaining to Girls and Young Women
Brief Description of Event: Join OCIC as we celebrate International Development Week 2012 with Rona Jualla van Oudenhoven and Nico van Oudenhoven from International Child Development Initiatives (ICDI) who will do a talk about newly emerging needs of girls and young women, relating threats, challenges and opportunities, and the uneven rise and progress of girl power. They will also present the GIRLS QUAT, a multi-purpose quality assessment tool that can be used in a wide range of services for girls and young women. Presenters: Rona Jualla Van Oudenhoven is an educational sociologist originating from Trinidad and Tobago, and Nico van Oudenhoven is an educational psychologist from the Netherlands. For five years they have worked closely together at the intersection of action research, policy and programme development, training and capacity building; always within the conceptual framework of international development efforts. Their major areas of concern are early child development, violence against children and women, and ‘newly emerging needs of children.’ They live alternatively in Canada and the Netherlands. International Child Development Initiatives (ICDI) is an international non-governmental organization based in The Netherlands. ICDI promotes the well-being of children growing up in difficult circumstances. They work to improve the policies and practices which affect these children by assisting in the development of local capacity (of children, their communities, organizations, and authorities). They believe in the power of children and young people, supporting their rights and addressing the underlying causes for the problems they face. View ICDI's website here:
