Years of civil war have destroyed much of the economic and social infrastructure of the Chechen Republic.
The World Food Programme's emergency operation in the Russian Federation is providing basic food assistance to 249,000 conflict-affected people in Ingushetia and Chechnya, and support to primary schoolchildren in Chechnya.
