What is ICD?

November 1-3, 2004, Ottawa Congress Centre,
55 Colonel By Drive, Ottawa, Ontario

International Cooperation Days (ICD), hosted by the Honourable Aileen Carroll, Minister of International Cooperation, is the third international forum organized by CIDA for all its partners. More than a thousand representatives from non-governmental, voluntary, public, and private sectors will meet with international development experts and professionals from around the world. Together, they will discuss the prospects for the world’s future in the context of the global roadmap for change: the United Nations Millennium Development Goals (MDGs).

As a participant, you will have the opportunity to:

  • Debate with stimulating speakers in plenary and panel sessions;
  • Exchange perspectives on the future of international cooperation;
  • Network with participants from all sectors; and
  • Interact with representatives from CIDA, other government departments, and international donors.

Theme:

The Millennium Development Goals Moving from Consensus to Momentum

Day One: Why this UN-led Strategy Matters Now

The UN Millennium Declaration, signed in 2000 by 189 members of the United Nations, was cause for much celebration. Governments united behind goals such as cutting in half the number of people living in extreme poverty and hunger by 2015. Will the MDGs be able to live up to their promises?

Day Two: Building Momentum

For Canadians involved in supporting the implementation of the MDGs, it will not be business as usual from now until the MDG target date of 2015: all sectors from youth to development professionals to the private sector have a part to play.

Day Three: Canadian Development Cooperation in Action

Attend a panel discussion hosted by CIDA senior management. Participate in workshops to learn about new policies and perspectives in Canadian governmental and non-governmental development assistance.
