Founded in 1946, just months after Canada's signature of the UN Charter in San Francisco, the United Nations Association in Canada is a nation-wide, volunteer-based, not-for-profit registered charity. | Position Description: |
The Communications Assistant will provide support to the UNDP programs, the Office of the Resident Coordinator, and other UN agencies in the country who lack resources for a dedicated Communications Officer.
In Canada
The JPC will be required to complete the following before their departure:
- Mandatory briefing session hosted by UNA-Canada in Ottawa, ON from June 25-28 2007
- Sign Participation Agreement with UNA-Canada
- Complete required skills assessments and documentation prior to departure
- Return all required documentation to UNA-Canada prior to departure
Overseas
This includes, but is not limited to:
- Drafting and managing the production and distribution of information materials such as UN newsletters, brochures and websites.
- Establishing contact and building relationships with national and international journalists in the capital to pitch stories about the policies, programmes and impact of UNDP.
- Organizing and coordinating press conferences, press launches, media breakfasts for the Resident Representative and other senior staff.
- Managing media campaign in the country connected with the launch of key reports, special events, speeches and statements
- Gathering information on UNDP work to determine relevant projects, policies and issues to be pitched in the country and overseas.
- Planning and conducting field trips for international and national journalists as well as goodwill ambassadors.
- Identifying and deploying local personalities as spokespersons to disseminate UNDP messages and results.
- Utilizing new information technology to communicate internally and externally.
- Providing stories and photographs for the UNDP Story/Photo Database.
- Developing communications components within UNDP projects and programmes to achieve intended results. |
