Indigenous Peoples Partnership Program
The Indigenous Peoples Partnership Program (IPPP) will be operational until March 2011. An evaluation of the IPPP was completed and recommendations are being considered. The IPPP will only be accepting project proposals once the redesign of the Program is finalized. We would invite you to consult our web page regularly to get an update on the Program.
Overview
The Indigenous Peoples Partnership Program (IPPP) is a pilot program that will end in March 2011. Funded by a budget of $10 million, the IPPP supports the developmental priorities of Indigenous peoples in the Latin America and Caribbean (LAC) region.
This responsive program provides opportunities to create durable partnerships and supports initiatives conceived by both Indigenous organizations in the LAC region and their Canadian Aboriginal partners. These partnerships will contribute to the sustainable development of Indigenous peoples in the LAC region through an exchange of knowledge, experience, expertise, and existing models.
Background
Despite an increase in attention and support from donors in recent years, the development process and its benefits largely continue to bypass Indigenous peoples in the LAC region. They remain some of the "poorest of the poor" and some of the most disadvantaged, especially in rural areas. They are extremely vulnerable because they have the highest incidence of infant mortality rates and the shortest life expectancies in the region.
